2012 Sports The Tribune Democrat Ryan Dandrea allowed one hit in six innings and Dylin Brooks had three hits and an RBI in Berkey Hills shutout of Martella Pharmacy in the late game at the Point. John Jones homered and drove in three for the Renegades. Laurel Auto Group used a 10run outburst in the third inning to hang with Martella Pharmacy, and got a towering single by Anthony Piccolini in the seventh to triumph in Monday late game at Point Stadium. Laurel Kevin Mitrisin walked with the score tied at 11 in the bottom of the seventh. He moved to second on a passed ball and third on a groundout to the pitcher by Tanner Kulback. Then, Piccolini sent a shot to the 400foot mark in right center to score Mitrisin and end the game. Piccolini scored two runs. Kulback and Dylan Woisonovich drove in a pair each. Avery Sandor singled twice and scored two runs, and Cullen Schimminger tripled. Martella catcher Pat Gully doubled and scored three runs. Dan Abbenante doubled, scored twice, drove in a run and stole two bases. Brian Weightman doubled, tripled and scored two runs. Matt McMillen two hits included a double and two RBIs, and Tony Strasiser drove in two. Nate Davis of Windber (1996) was chosen Assistant Coach of the Year in the Great Lakes Region in a vote of his coaching peers. Davis, an assistant with the women program at Wisconsin, received the honor for the third time in five years at Wisconsin. He swept the award for both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2010. Davis coaches the Badgers sprints, hurdles, jumps and multievent groups and had five qualifiers for the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships, including a nation best three qualifiers in the heptathlon. Wisconsin was the first program since 2001 to advance three athletes to the NCAA championships in the heptathlon. Duquesne junior distance runner Jim Spisak wrapped up the 2012 season with a 13th place finish in the 5,000 meter run at the 2012 NCAA East Regional at the University of North Florida. Spisak, who finished with a time of 14:12.87, was one spot shy of qualifying for the NCAA Championship. The top five runners from each of the two heats advanced as well as the next two best times. He had the eighthbest time in the 48runner field, but the seven ahead of him were all in his heat. The former Bishop McCort standout broke two school records during the season with his time of 13:50.44 in the 5,000 at the Colonial Relays and with his time of 3:48.01 in the 1,500 meter run at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
